Sapphire and Steel: A Script Idea
I have had a Quatermassy sort of week as a result of re-reading the script of the Hancock's Half Hour which parodies Quatermass and the Pit. The ideas I have for blog posts are nowhere near the point of coming out in a mass of confused verbiage yet. Instead this was going to be a photographic blog post just appreciating the way that Steel isn't so much steely ('coldly determined, hard' - Oxford Languages), as that he somehow manages to butt heads with everyone and everything he encounters. This is most noticeable in The Railway Station.
This has also given me an idea for a script which anyone would be welcome to take up for a revival. My idea is that Sapphire and Steel investigate a breakout of Time in a phone box. Time could keep saying 'Press button A' and flipping the pages of the telephone directories. The directories could also flip to the pages for people who ring up from or who have used the phone box at different times. Changes in time could be seen by the box being replaced by boxes of different vintages. Of course it could also be the scene of an atrocity of some sort, but still not as bad as the one I'm envisaging when Sapphire makes the mistake of leaving Steel on his own in the phone box momentarily, and he still somehow manages to start a fight in there. There could also be some great role for the Operator. I'm disproportionately pleased with this idea which is why it gets a whole blog post to itself!
